The University of Lagos, on Friday, January 13, 2023, added another feather to its cap with the commissioning of three Telemedicine booths.
Being the first of such in any Nigerian university and part of activities marking the university’s 60th Anniversary and 53rd Convocation Ceremonies, the telemedicine booths estimated at over N200,000,000 (two hundred million naira) is another act of benevolence courtesy of Sir (Dr) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu.
Speaking at a special ceremony to flag off the use of the booths at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, adjudged the telemedicine booths a quantum leap in meeting the immediate health care needs of the university community.
The new facilities, according to Prof. Ogunsola epitomizes the university management’s commitment towards providing quality and prompt medical care to students.
The Vice-Chancellor showered encomiums on the donor, Chairman, Premier Lotto limited; Sir (Dr) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, for his acts of benevolence, generous commitment and sustained contributions towards the growth and development of UNILAG, through his Foundation, the Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF) with projects such as the KAAF Medical Laboratory and Maternity Centre, the ongoing Medical Research Centre at the College of Medicine and the provision of Premium Health insurance for 35,005 full-time students of UNILAG under the Ilera Eko Telemedicine Plan.
With the new telemedicine booths, Prof. Ogunsola said remote access to medical care in UNILAG and its environs will improve just as costs of medical care and doctor-patient ratio are bound to reduce.
She specially acknowledged the Pro-chancellor, University of Lagos, Prince Senator (Dr) Lanre Tejuoso for using his influence to facilitate the project and assured of optimal utilization and proper maintenance.
In her remarks, Dr. Abiola Olorode who represented the donor; Sir (Dr) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu described the 3 telemedicine booths as a token of commitment to education and health care being the core values of the Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF).
While commending successive leaderships of the university for the firm commitment to development, Dr. Olorode solicited optimal usage of the new facilities with the assurance that the project will further reduce mortality ratio, improve access to health care as well as reduce Doctor-Patient physical contacts in UNILAG.
Earlier in his welcoming remarks, the Provost, College of Medicine, Professor David Oke was full of gratitude to the donor, Sir (Dr) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu for his generous disposition to the University of Lagos.
Prof. Oke also appreciated the university management for the thoughtful, pragmatic and development-driven engagements with philanthropists and corporate partners. He said these efforts have kept UNILAG on the path of monumental strides in terms of infrastructure and scholarships.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the formal commissioning of the telemedicine booth sited at the College of Medicine by Daughter of the Donor, Dr Abiola Olorode on behalf of Sir (Dr) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu while Prof. Folasade Ogunsola alongside other principal officers of UNILAG had a tour of the facility.

Two of the telemedicine booths are sited on the Akoka campus of UNILAG while the third is at the College of Medicine, Idi Araba. The facilities are under the management of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA).
