The immediate past Provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), Professor Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi, has been appointed the new Board Chairperson of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

His appointment was approved on Thursday, February 15, 2024, by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the appointment and reappointment of other Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

Professor Afolabi Lesi, who is also an alumnus of the College of Medicine University of Lagos, Nigeria obtained his MBBS degree in 1984 and completed his postgraduate training at the same affiliated teaching institution, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) obtaining the FWACP (Paed.) in 1994. He bagged a Masters with Distinction at the University College London in 1997.

Beyond academia, Professor Lesi has gathered relevant administrative experiences over the years, displaying teamwork and innovation. A luminary academician, many of Professor Lesi’s mentees occupy notable professional and academic leadership positions today.
