The vision and efforts of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, at striking a balance between knowledge acquisition and acquiring of relevant skills for economic emancipation received a boost as the Vice-Chancellor officially commissioned the Canon Imaging Lab newly established on the UNILAG campus.

Speaking on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the formal unveiling of the facility located at the UNILAG Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Development, Prof. Ogundipe stressed the need for Nigeria’s vast youthful population to be conscious of the global shift towards knowledge-based economy as against certification as basis for employability.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the vision of the University of Lagos under his leadership, to register and provide mentorship to no fewer than five thousand (5,000) businesses for students of the University.

Prof. Ogundipe also lauded partners, friends and corporate organizations for their favourable disposition, goodwill, supports and donations towards the university, a feat which he said, accounts for the massive development recorded in UNILAG’s drive towards promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

In his remarks, Managing Director of Canon for Central and North Africa, Mr. Dumesh Adukai said the new facility sited on the UNILAG campus is aimed at creating business and employment opportunities as well as bringing Canon products and services closer to the market.

Mr. Adukai who joined the event virtually from his office in the United Arab Emirate, noted that the new Canon Imaging Lab will create a learning platform for students and non-students alike as well as stem the tide of unemployment by providing Business support services.

He commended the management of UNILAG for the foresight which brought about the partnership. In his remarks, the Director in charge of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Development, University of Lagos: Dr Sunday Adebisi identified the new Canon Imaging Lab as a platform to further connect students of the University of Lagos to the world
