An alumnus of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), Dr. Olajide Idris, has been appointed the new Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

His appointment was approved on Thursday, February 15, 2024, by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the appointment and reappointment of other Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

Dr. Olajide Idris is a seasoned medical practitioner who has over thirty (30) years of experience in Medical Practice, Healthcare Systems Management, Consulting, Pharmaceutical and Research. After he obtained his MBBS degree from the College of Medicine University of Lagos, Nigeria Dr. Idris went on to acquire a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from Yale University, Connecticut, USA; served as the Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Health (1999–2007); and then Commissioner for Health in Lagos State (2007–2019). He is currently the Medical Director at FHS Medical Consulting Ltd. (2019–Date).
