An alumna of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Chukwudumebi Elouise Asem has won a C$10,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award. Asem bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture in 2018 and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Design in 2021 from UNILAG.

The McCall MacBain Scholarship recognizes young individuals who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity. It provides funding for a full-time master’s or professional programme at any public university in Canada.

Asem who is currently applying for a master’s programme in management, works as a Junior Product Manager at HireMe. She also volunteers as Manager of The Sahara Centre, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering creative professionals. Working with the advisory board on refining the strategic direction at The Sahara Centre, she is presently implementing a workshop series to train up to one hundred (100) young Nigerians.

The McCall MacBain Scholarships are the result of a landmark C$200 million gift by John and Marcy McCall MacBain in 2019, the largest single donation in Canadian history.

Applications for September 2025 admission will open in June 2024. In addition to thirty (30) fully funded scholarships, up to one hundred (100) awards of C$5,000 to $20,000 will be offered to successful applicants.
