The Medical Centre, University of Lagos wishes to inform members of the University community of the current Lassa fever outbreak in Nigeria.

Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness that can lead to severe complications if not addressed promptly.

Key Information:

  1. Symptoms: Fever, headache, sore throat, muscle aches, and general weakness are common early symptoms. In severe cases, patients may experience bleeding, organ failure, and, in some instances, death.
  2. Transmission: Lassa fever is primarily transmitted through contact with the urine or feces of infected rats, as well as through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals.

All members of the University of Lagos community are enjoined to adhere strictly to these precautions. By doing so, we can collectively contribute to preventing the spread of Lassa fever and ensuring the well-being of our community.
