The Acting Registrar of the University of Lagos, Mrs. Olakunle Esther Makinde, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, reiterated her commitment to efforts aimed at ensuring professionalization and skills optimization, within the University Registry.

Speaking at an interactive session with Senior Assistant Registrars (SARs) and Principal Assistant Registrars (PARs) of the university, Mrs. Makinde emphasized the need for top-notch professionalism and dedication within the non-teaching cadre.

The forum provided a platform for the Acting Registrar to highlight her plans for the Registry in line with the ‘Future Ready’ agenda of the University Management. This includes enhanced automation of all business processes using Business Process Automation (BPA) software; enhanced professionalism in the registry through staff training and development; promotion of staff efficiency and productivity; provision of quality support services to all matters relating to the Registry among others.

While describing the functions of registry staff as onerous, Mrs. Makinde emphasized the indispensability of administrators, as well as the need for administrators to understand the importance of high-level professionalism, dedication to duty, and mutual cooperation with other arms of management of the university.

Her words, “we are the engine room of a functional system. The ability of an administrator to create structural work involves focusing attention on the structure and process of allocating tasks to achieve common objectives”.

In the course of the meeting, several issues pertaining to the workings and efficiency of registry staff were raised and discussed. Mrs. Makinde declared her readiness to run an ‘open-door’ system to give room for the generation and implementation of constructive ideas that would push UNILAG administrators to international standard. She also assured of ongoing efforts to create access to opportunities for acquisition of skills that are relevant for staff with a view to preparing them for life after their service to the university.

While wishing her success in her new role, the senior registry staff assured the Acting Registrar of their cooperation, unwavering commitment, goodwill, and support as she works towards achieving her goal in the Future-Ready Agenda for UNILAG.

The meeting which was held in the Senate Chamber of the Senate House is Mrs. Makinde’s first interactive session with Senior Assistant Registrars (SARs) and Principal Assistant Registrars (PARs) of the University, following her appointment as Acting Registrar on August 1, 2023. Mrs. Makinde was until her appointment the Acting Director of the Directorate of Academic Affairs.
